
These drugs, all bisophonates, have recently been linked to a disfiguring and dehabilitating disease called Osteonecrosis of the Jaw (also known as “ONJ”, “Dead Jaw”, BisPhossy Jaw, “Jaw Necrosis”.)
Zometa and Aredia have been prescribed to cancer patients to help prevent bone fractures and build bone mass.
Fosamax and Actonel have been prescribed to prevent and treat bone loss in postmenopausal osteoporosis and steroid-induced osteoporosis. Fosamax is also used to treat Pagets disease of bone.
